    My daughter is a colllege freshman. . Major in engineering. What would be better for her a mbp or mac air? Will want a 13 inch.

    A major in engineering is a really vague idea in what she'll actually be doing. An Air COULD suffice for her, but if you think she will be getting into any kinds of graphics intensive studies later in her college career, I would go with the Macbook Pro for the horsepower under the hood, since it is a better suited machine for such things.

    My youngest is a bio eng grad student. He wanted the MBP for the higher resolution screen and the additional power for some of the programs he uses. My vote is definitely the MBP

    MBP is the bigger computer with higher res/processor/hard drive. She'll have the room to install programs if she has to and it'll be able to keep up with the usage.

    Ask her preference. She has to have some experience to draw from. Stay away from the Black Friday 200 dollar laptops. Light, thin, good quality. Use a student discount.
