I have an iphone 5 running iOS6
I've been installing and deleting a lot of big apps and have noticed my free memory doesn't add up to what is currently on my phone

Is there anyway to restore memory without doing a full reset?

Look in settings at all your apps where it gives you the app size and how much the total of all of them are. Take a hard look at all your apps and decide what you can do without and deletethem. Next your photos and videos take up a lot, Find out what you can move to an external drive, Dropbox or photobucket to name a few choices, Then delete them from your phone. All of theses actions will free up more than enough for you. That would be my recommendation. Good luck.!

I've added up every apps size
Total is 6.14 gigs
Says total memory used 9.7
3.7 available

How do I get back the 3.6 gigs without formatting the phone

If you tether your Phone to iTunes does this match? Also as I stated earlier, have you considered your photos, videos and music if you have any of these 3 items synced on your phone? Those items take a good deal of space in itself.
