    While the iPad doesn't show support for those file containers, there is several apps in the app store which will allow for Xvid/DivX and even MKV playback. My personal preference is to use Cinex Player but you may find something more suited to your tastes just by searching the app store.

    My personal favourite app to play divx/xvid avi files is VLC for iOS and it's free


    but there are other apps out there in the App Store to try if you want

    But no the iPad does not support "native" playback of divx/xvid videos with the built in video player.
