    I have a user who recently got their bill from Big Blue Carrier (Canada) and the user consumed 15GB of data in one month.
    The user DID not use personal hotspot.
    Upon an investigation with Big Blue Carrier, we found 5 emails stuck in the iPhone's OUTBOX because the attachments were too big.
    The user had attached too many pictures in each email resulting in each email to be in excess of 15MB.

    Big Blue Carrier tells me that the iPhone kept trying to upload these emails and as a result we got the bill for the 15GB of data.

    Has anyone ever heard of this or can confirm this is true?
    I was under the impression the emails just sat in the OUTBOX until deleted or the attachments reduced.

    Emails go into the outbox because they are trying to send and likely have an issue sending (connection, attachments, etc.) If her emails contained many pictures each, then of-course it would take longer to send.

    If the phone is continuing to try and upload the emails to the server constantly then yes, that can happen. User should have deleted the outgoing emails once they noticed they weren't going thru to avoid the data overage. Btw, welcome to iMore

    How is the user alerted that the emails didn't go out?
    The only way I see that happening is if the user goes looking at the OUTBOX periodically. In this particular case, the user would never think of doing that. after they hear "swoosh" it's safe to assume the email went.
    Seems silly and something that should be addressed with iOS. Lucky for the user, the company will cover the charges incurred. Imagine if this was a personal account and you got that bill. LOL

    If the email is still in his/her outbox then it won't make the "sent" sound. Everyone has multiple folders nowadays so it not that big a deal to notice if an email hasn't sent. It will show a # in the outbox folder indicating there is still an email to be delivered.

    The only way the outbox folder even shows up on the screen with all your mailboxes is if there is something hung up there waiting to be sent.

    If you have not rectified your problem you may need to delete the email acct and set it up again or call your carrier to see if it is email hooked up with them to clear your email out. More than likely deleting the acct and setting it back up again will clear this issue.
