I tried to transfer my old content from my 5 to my 5s. All the apps/settings transferred and none of my audiobooks or songs. What am I missing? I use Audible and Spotify a lot, 20gig of audiobooks/songs between the two.

Your songs and audiobooks should be available for re-dowloading via the purchased section of the iTunes Store. iTunes backups don't contain music, movies, podcast, etcetera.

Bah, Audible support just emailed me saying there is no way of doing it. So a backup really isn't a backup. It's a partial save at best. What a joke.

For a given app, an iCloud or iTunes backup, saves the following: 1) tithe fact that the app is installed on the device and its position on the home page and 2) any app specific data that the app developer has decided to store in a specific location within the app. Even within this location, a dev can flag a specific file as not to be backed up. This is often done in the case of data that can easily be re-downloaded.
So if the Audible dev did not store the audio books in the back-able location or flagged them as not to be backed up, then they wouldn't be backed up.
