Find MEID # on Verizon iPhone 4

I have a chance to buy a Verizon iPhone 4 from a pawn shop for a cheap price. It doesn't have a box. I thought that I may get it for a backup phone.
My question is how do I find the IMED# to activate it on Verizon? When I try to run through the setup process, it gets to "activating your phone", spins for a couple of minutes, and then says phone wasn't activated. If I can get that number, then I can input it on My Verizon and activate it. Any workaround to obtain that number?
I think that I am correct in saying MEID#. It is the one that starts with A00000........
