How do I know when my iPhone 5S is fully charged?

I am just not sure when my iPhone 5S is fully charged. With my previous iPhones, I knew it was fully charged when the "PLUG" icon shows up.
But this time, I have charged my iPhone 5S fully up to where it states 100% but the it's still lightning icon even after like 30 minutes ...

Please clarify. Thank you

Put it to sleep. Hit the home or sleep button. It will show you the % if it is plugged in.

Or turn on the percentage.
