Why people are connecting their phones to their fridges

Smart refrigerators are among the very first smart home appliances to hit the market, more than 10 years ago from what I recall.

It's sad to see that they are also slowest to advance, adding mostly gimmick features.

It looks like only GE's home appliances have smart features that would have most obvious benefits: remotely checking the status and receiving alerts. Has the refrigerator doors been open for awhile? How many more days till water filter needs replacing?

It's too bad that GE doesn't take the feature further -- HomeKit integration for one. And remotely closing the door.

I saw an advertisement where you can remotely see what's in your fridge while your shopping 🛒 and thought that was a cool feature
