Original watch owner here. Upgrading to series 4 gold stainless steel 44mm with Milanese loop. I know this might be a silly question but is the series 4 water resistant ? Like can I shower with it , swim etc ?

Shower, yes, with a caveat (soap is bad for the waterproofing seals. I don't understand why people want to shower with a watch on - you are supposed to be cleaning your body, and the watch blocks part of your body). Swimming, yes (but I wouldn't dive below, say, about 10 feet.)

Apple Watch Series 4 has a water resistance rating of 50 meters under ISO standard 22810:2010. This means that it may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean. However, Apple Watch Series 4 should not be used for scuba diving, waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below shallow depth.

Upgrading from S3 38mm silver aluminum to S4 44mm space gray aluminum. GPS only, don’t want to add to my monthly Verizon bill, lol. Got the email this morning that my watch is at the UPS facility and will arrive next Friday, October 12th. Sooner than expected!

I went for the upgrade for the added and improved heart monitoring features because I do have a heart condition I’m on medication for....so worth it to me. Might be so for you too?

When I got my s3. I have my son (freshman in college) my original. I asked if he wanted to upgrade and he said "for what I use it for, this one works just fine".

Ah, like father like son. :)

Gen1/Series0 owner... just upgraded yesterday. It was time. WatchOS 5 doesn’t on them anyways. Not that it’s a necessity. But it was becoming unbearably slow.

It was a space black stainless model. Not making same mistake with the S4. Not worth the extra expense on something with planned obsolescence.

Considering it. Battery on my Series 0 is starting to fade out earlier in the evening the past month or so.

Folks,

I'm an original Apple Watch owner, series 0 as they sometimes say. lol My watch is working fine. I KNOW it won't get the new watch OS, but does that really matter?

HOWEVER, as a 52 year old man with a family history of heart disease (both sides), maybe the new ECG will be of a great benefit to me? Smaller bezels and a slightly larger size might be appealing too.

So question is, do I upgrade, OR do I wait till the original dies and THEN upgrade? What are others doing?

I am looking at the new series 4 watch because of a bad heart not really a watch person but wondering how well it will work for doing EKG’s

This was a big push for me besides the slowness of the S0. I've no regrets about getting the S4! I got a lot of life out of it (almost 3 years)

My S0 is still running good but slow like the rest finally pulled the trigger today and ordered another Black SS model but went with the 40 instead of the 44 mm. Hopefully i don’t regret the size just have to buy new bands and hardware now.

I've the original, Series 2, 3 and now 4, all SS. I've retired my original watch since I got the Series 3 but I'd say definitely go for the Series 4 as it's a different watch compared to all the previous generations.

everything would have worked with the 44. Was the 42 too big for you? or did you have the 38?
44 isn't that much bigger than the 42 (we're talking millimeters here) but less bezel the screen is a nice size.

Although the Series 4 is tempting, I'm going to keep using my Series 3. Now if I had a series 2 or earlier then I would have definitely purchased a Series 4 model.

I didn't get a chance to go to the apple store (nearest one is 1.5 hours away). I have the 42 in black ss, I liked the screen size and the 40 screen was just a little bigger so I thought It would be a perfect fit. The 44s screen to me was a little larger than I'd want on my wrist from videos I've watched but might be different in person.

OG owner here.
The series 0 was working just fine for what I needed it to do (mostly for alerts, timers and pinging my phone, lol) so I didn’t feel the need to upgrade. But the ecg feature intrigued me and there are times that I have to “check-in my phone” before entering a venue so I thought it would be a good idea to get a series 4 with cellular. Even though I have small wrists, I chose the 42mm series 0 and now have the 44mm series 4 because I prefer big watches. I love this watch! ❤️

Congrats! The upgrade from the S0 is a huge jump. Very happy with the watch.

Just upgraded from a series 0 to an S4 44mm and I love it. Couldn’t be happier. I found the S0 was starting to lag doing even basic functions. The S4 operates much smoother and faster and I’m diggin’ the larger size and display

Congrats! You’ll love everything about it. Got mine in October and love it more everyday...especially since the ECG feature has been released.

I did an unplanned Series 2 to 4 purchase so I could keep my rings closed while the 2 is shipped for repair. For some things the 2 to 4 speed differences is a WOW obvious. My aging eyes love the extra display.

My points being I think a whole lot of original, 1 and 2 owners will be really happy with a 4.
