watchOS Update "Checking for Updates" taking forever - turn off Airplane Mode on the iPhone
Posting in the event anyone else runs into this scenario.
Even though my original Series 0 (zero) Apple Watch was connected to my iPhone 8+ via Bluetooth and WiFi, when I checked for updates via the Apple Watch app, the "Checking for updates" status didn't change for hours.
I had the iPhone on Airplane Mode, but with WiFi and Bluetooth enabled. Perhaps that was preventing the Apple Watch from being on WiFi?
Soon as I turned off Airplane Mode on the 8+, and then checked for Update in the Apple Watch App, the watchOS 4.2 update was available.
