Calendar on Apple Watch not syncing event removed from iPhone

I have removed a reoccurring event from the stock calendar on my iPhone and the event still shows up on my Apple Watch. Any thoughts on how I can remove it from the calendar on my Apple Watch?

Check your Watch app on the iPhone and see if Calendar is set to 'Mirror my iPhone'?

It is set to that. I didn't realize that I could force tap the event and delete on my watch so I did that to get rid of it

You can also turn off the calendar sync and back on to force things to re-sync up.
