Unlocking multiple macs with apple watchos3

I have set up my apple watch (running watchos3) to unlock my Macbook Air - works like a charm. I have also set it up on my mac mini, but moac mini does not see the watch at all despite everything being set up. Is unlocking a mac with watch restricted to one device only?

As with all continuity features it requires your mac to have Bluetooth LE (4.xx) to be compatible.

Is it?

2012 Mac mini or later? My mini probably isn't close enough for my Watch to unlock it. Or is it something else and not just immediate proximity.

I have a 2014 Mac Mini and a 2015 Macbook Pro. Both unlock fine with my watch... What year is your Mini?
