I have small wrists so wanted the 38mm watch as I didn’t want a domineering size however I have eyesight that would have been better suited to the 42mm if I just wanted a quick glance at my notifications rather than having to actually get the right viewing distance to read easily

42 for virtually all men.. The 38 is far too small for most men

A very broad statement, especially if you're discussing world population. You could be right given 'most' could be as little as 51% (for round numbers) and we fully discount personal preference.

I would be curious to see the sales numbers and see what sells better? My comment was strictly anecdotal

Understood. Still, a comprehensive survey would help to analyze why a size was chosen. No doubt some chose because how it looked on their wrist and others because of display size, battery life, etc.

My mechs are range at around 46-48mm and look 'size-appropriate' i.e. not like rapper bling. But even if the 42 looked 'big' on my wrist, I'd have got it because I can read the display more easily.
