When I mow my grass I get a good walking exercise, but I don't want to wear my watch. I do carry my phone in my pocket for music. Is there a way for the activity app to know I did a walking workout using just the phone to track it?
Open the Apple Watch app on your phone>Privacy>Motion&Fitness>Turn off Fitness Tracking (until you've finished mowing your lawn) and the phone SHOULD log your movements.
I had to do this the other way around as my phone AND watch were counting my steps so the Activity app was showing basically double what I had done so I turned off the Motion And fitness setting in the iPhone Privacy settings.
