Does 3rd generation Apple TV remote require line of sight?

No it does not. I assume your TV will be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi.

Yeah I can connect my tv to the wifi. I was planning to connect it via cat6 though. Figured I’d get faster performance that way.

If you can connect via Ethernet cable then yeah, I’d definitely go that route.

The 3rd generation Apple TV uses Infrared for the remote. You will need line of sight for the remote to work.

Thanks for the follow-up @Ed7789. I completely overlooked the part about the remote control. I’ll blame it on my allergy headache. ;)

I put the Apple TV behind a cardboard box and it still worked. I’ll tape the Apple TV behind the tv and try again.

Even if it's not visible light (to humain beings), it's still light and it should behave as such. In other words, it might have reflected on some reflective surface. Nonetheless, you can always try and see if it works; you don't lose anything by trying :)
