How can I get the audio of my Apple TV working again?

i have lost the audio in my apple tv

my a/tv was showing the words spoken as subtitles. i went to settings and turned on everything in the audio and video sub category but only made it worse.

Try resetting all settings to restoring it via the device's settings.
