Can I use my iPhone as a remote for the Apple TV?

Long story short, I lost my Apple TV remote. Can I use my iPhone 5 as a remote for it?

The old ones yes, the new one no, at least yet. I'm hoping it becomes possible with an update to the Remote app.

You can get the previous gen remote for $20 but you lose Siri and the ability to swipe. You use the d-pad instead.
