Did I hear someone say that the new AppleTV does not use the current HDMI cord that is used for the Apple TV 2

I haven't heard anything to that extent so I doubt it will be an issue. If you find out anything concrete let me know though!

Just checked the Apple Store app and it states "requires HDMI cable". You should be fine with your existing cable.

I'll let you know when I get mine next week. It's replacing a gen 3 AppleTV and I'm not getting a new HDMI cable.

I'm not sure why the old HDMI cable would not work. The new Apple TV isn't doing anything that requires the most recent HDMI spec.

Well it depends on the hdmi cable but the new Apple TV can control the tv volume and power of the tv and it depends on the hdmi cable I believe

You can use any of your current HDMI cables. No need to spend $50 for a new high quality cable.
