    I'm hoping the ATV remote can be set to control the Amp volume directly.

    I know they say it can control volume via CEC, but my TV doesn't support that. I have my TV speakers off and use my Pioneer Receiver exclusively. I use a Harmony to power on and switch inputs.

    The remote has an IR sensor on it so I would assume you can control devices other than the Apple TV. The real question is how extensive is their support for TV's and AVR's.
