With all the talk focusing on the "New ATV" nothing is really being said about continued use or any type of updates to the V3 & V2 units.

I'm thinking the 3rd generation will see an update for its OS next week... the 2nd generation I think still has value for being jailbreakable... both should still be useable for a year more...

The ones I have right now would probably be EOL for me in 2-3 years. They work great for what I need them to work for.

There may be updates to the OS for the older TVs, but nothing of the magnitude of what v4 will be. With 6 grown kids with their own families, I am sure that I can find a home for the units that I am replacing.

I just need to see whose name is on the yellow post it note on the underside of each device.

It's pretty out of date to be honest. With the weaker processor and all, it's probably best that they don't really touch it. I don't want it to be like an iOS 7 on an iPhone 4 experience.

Well Gen 3 served me well but if there's a Black Friday deal on the new one, I'll be jumping on it. I suppose I could always use the older unit for a secondary TV set or maybe pass it on to my roommate. Very excited about the new ATV. This was long overdue. On the software, I agree that even though Gen 3 may not run on TvOS, it will see some sort of update.

I would have thought so too but I hold out hope. There's a lot of these units out there and if Apple is still going to sell it at a reduced price, some love and attention is still expected. Not a lot, but some. I know they have to roll out the red carpet for the new one so their attention is on that.
