I don't know how long it has been like this, but I noticed it after updating to 8.2.

I only have 1 Apple TV on my home network. Does anyone happen to know how I could change this, whether on the iPhone or the TV?

Did you update your AppleTV? There's an update for that too... it might fix things.

Not yet, but I just checked my wife's 5s and hers is only "Apple TV".

So this is definitely an issue (not really an issue) with my device.

I wonder if this is one of those things that relates to KeyChain, like a post I made awhile back about wifi networks being saved as well.

Make sure the other Apple TV is on. It must be active to show in the AirPlay list.

You said "other", but there is only 1 Apple TV in my house.

There is only 1 wifi SSID in my house.

I am familiar with the setup and usage of the Apple TV. I am just curious as to why my 5s would have a (2) considering everything I mentioned. Again, my wife's 5s displays "Apple TV" where mine is "Apple TV (2)".

Maybe your phone is picking up someone else's Apple TV. What I would do is go to settings in Apple TV and change the name of the Apple TV to your likings and see what it shows up as under your wife's phone and yours.

I don't see how it would by picking up someone else's TV when it's not of the same wifi network. Anyhow, I changed the name as suggested and my wife's phone, our iPad, and iTunes on the laptop all show "Bedroom Apple TV", but my 5s shows "Bedroom Apple TV (2)".

My assumption is that somewhere within my Apple ID there is a link to either the MAC Address or Serial Number of my particular Apple TV. I assume because years ago when I had a 4s I linked up to a work Apple TV to set it up. I signed out of that TV immediately. That was probably 3/4 years ago.

That is the only scenario I can come up with. I am updating the Apple TV software now, and then I will restore to factory and post any changes.

So updating resolved nothing, but doing a factory restore changed it back to "Apple TV" on my device. I will check my wife's 5s when she gets home, hopefully it didn't revert to (2) on her device.

That's very odd. I've had my MBP rename itself with a (2) or even (3) after the name, but never my apple tv. I think it may have something to do with DNS or Bonjour within the local network. If it (for whatever reason) thinks there is already a device on the network with that name, it puts a number after it.

I would agree with you if all the iDevices in my house displayed the (2), but it was only my device. With that said, it has to be local to my 5s.

Well when my MBP was doing that, it was only that device. My Mac mini was fine. Various iDevices were ok too. I just ignored it.

I'm always intrigued by these type of glitches so I tried to see if I could duplicate it at my house and couldn't. If you figure this out please post an update.

I did post my solution above and it fixed the issue. I did not figure out why it happened in the first place though.
