Is there a way to prevent adding duplicate songs to playlists? It would be nice when adding a song to playlist that you would get a notification that the song already exists on the playlist. Am I missing something?

I don't think there is. Spotify does this and I wish Apple Music would too..

I hate how if you like a song and then the same son pops up again, but with different album art the like/dislike doesn't transfer to it. The consistency of it all just is boggling.

I'm playlist challenged. I added some songs to a playlist via my iPhone, and when I tried to sync with my PC, they would show up on the playlist when I was looking at it via iTunes, but they had disappeared when I looked at the same playlist on my iPhone. So I attempted to "re-add" via iTunes, and did get a pop up window that I was adding a duplicate song that was already on the list.

Well, a notification would be good, but iTunes kind of does it .."Show Exact Duplicates"

Thanks. Where exactly in iTunes do I find that option? I rarely use iTunes on my computer.

I have found that I do get a duplicate notice in a playlist if I add songs from my MacBookAir. However, like said above, there is no notice when adding duplicates on my iPhone....

You're liking a song from a specific album. If that same song or an iteration thereof is also present on another album, it will count as a different song. That's just the way it works.

If you want to listen to all your liked songs you can create a smart playlist to do so.

Show duplicates will only show actual duplicates in your library, not in playlists.

To search for duplicates in playlists you have to sort songs by title and delete the duplicates manually.
