I am in the process of migrating my library over from Google Music All Access to Apple Music for when I purchase an iPhone 6S Plus (when it launches, probably in 1.5-2 months). I'm familiar with iTunes and the process has gone smoothly. However, last week I wanted to browse new music that was released on Friday. I clicked on New and was taken to the main page detailing new music added to Apple Music.

That's fine but I'm not interested in it. I went to change the genre and nothing, iTunes just sit there with all of the pop, indie, and rap new releases that are popular. It doesn't show the new releases for the genre I selected (Metal). I tried selecting Rock, Dance, and every other genre. iTunes just sits there. The only way I've been able to see new music I'm interested in is through the iTunes Store. Then I make note of what I saw and search for it in Apple Music.

Is anyone else having this issue? I'm running the most recent version of iTunes 12.2.1, the 64-bit edition for Windows (it's on my Surface 3 with the latest updates for Windows 8.1 installed). The new music page updates each week on Friday but I can never change the genre to see the new music I'm interested in. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes along with the suite of Apple background programs that are also installed with iTunes. Oddly enough, I accessed Apple Music on my friend's 13" rMBP. They too were running the latest version of Apple Music and couldn't switch genres either.

    Edit:

Also, a secondary question. Right now I have Google Music All Access setup on my Note Edge so that it only downloads one playlist. I give every song in this playlist a Thumbs Up rating and it's automatically added to said playlist. I then have the Google Music app setup to download only that playlist. Any new song I add is automatically added to my phone. Is Apple Music the same way? I'm going through a hitting Loved for all of the songs that have a Thumbs Up rating. I'm going to download that playlist to my next iPhone. Will I have to initiate the downloading of new songs every time the playlist is updated or will the Music app be smart enough to automatically do this?

I listen mostly to death metal and black metal and I have the same problem as you have.
And no, it has nothing to do with the connection problems Apple Music and iCloud had this week.

You can look under 'Rock' for new releases but you will only find releases by mainstream bands. In Spotify you will get a notification, most of the time, when a band you are following releases a new album. As far as I know Apple Music doesn't do that (yet).

Yes, it is very annoying because there are a lot of new releases in the metal genre per month. I hope they will fix this. I have reported it.

If those artists are on Connect, can you just follow them? And not in Apple Music, but in iTunes Store itself, I've set up notification for artists releases and gotten them correctly. It's been a while since I tested that out though.

Yes, you can follow them through the iTunes Store and even Apple Music, they don't have to be on Connect either. I've setup Apple Music to follow certain bands/artists that don't have a Connect page and it's fine. Actually, Apple Music has been smart enough lately that it will auto-follow certain bands/artists if I add enough of their albums to my library. So that's working just fine, it's a matter of switching genres in the New Music page of Apple Music. It doesn't matter what genre I select, iTunes just sits there.

This happened last week and before that as well. It started in early July when I signed up for a 3 month trial of Apple Music and figured I could start moving my library over now. I want to browse new music in the genres listed in the pull down menu, iTunes just ignores my input when I select a genre. I can try changing the genre to anything and iTunes will just sit there. It's really annoying as I want to start filling my library with new music and iTunes hasn't been letting me. It doesn't matter what genre I pick, iTunes doesn't change. It will only show the main New Music page and nothing else. My only solution is to use the iTunes Store (which works fine in iTunes) to browse new releases, search for them in Apple Music, and then add them to my library. It would be nice if I could just browse new releases in Apple Music like I'm supposed to be able to instead of switching back and forth.

It's not that. I fully expect there to not be a listing for sub-genres, I'm fine with that. I can't even change the genre to Rock in Apple Music through iTunes, it just sits there. I can change it to anything and iTunes will do nothing. That's what I'm trying to do. It would be nice if I could even see the main Rock or Metal pages in Apple Music but I can't.

This probably doesn't help, but I'm not having that problem. When go to "New" in iTunes on my MacBook Pro and choose a different genre, it changes for me. I will try tomorrow at work. I think it's something work taking up with Apple via support. I've done live chat with them before for iTunes issues and found it very useful. Everything isn't meant for live chat, but the few times of done it for iTunes it's been fine.

I went through a live chat with Apple on Friday, I eventually took my system into the Apple Store on Saturday. Neither the live chat nor the trip to the store solved anything. The store employees were also really confused as they said that this was the first time they were encountering a system running Windows 10 (I updated on Wednesday). One of the employees jokingly said that the solution would be to buy a Mac. Ironically, that employee flipped open the "loaner" 15" MBPr system they had at the genius bar table, opened iTunes, clicked on New, selected a genre from the pull-down menu below the scrolling artwork, and it didn't change the selection either. They tried it on three Macs total (that MBPr, an iMac, and a new MacBook), it only worked on the new MacBook and not the others.

I completely uninstalled iTunes along with all Apple programs (three times now), clearing registry entries and everything. Still no luck.

That is bizarre. That it worked on one system and not the others makes it really perplexing. I wonder what would happen if you make a new Apple ID just for test purposes and do a new trial of Apple music, if you would still have the problem. It's clearly not a system problem but maybe it's a cloud problem. Bizarre.
