Welcome to iMore! The Surface Pro is a tablet (more or less) while the MacBook is a notebook computer. One runs macOS while the other runs Windows. One has a capacitive display while the other uses a touchpad. They serve different types of users. It might be helpful if you give us some insight as to what you’ll be doing on your Surface Pro or MacBook.

Personally, I would pick my iPad Pro over any of to two options you listed, but that’s based off of MY use case. Yours will likely differ.

It depends on which operating system you prefer, Microsoft or MacOS? I would go for the MacBook since it’s a laptop and that it runs MacOS.

    1. Do you prefer Windows over macOS?
    2. Do you prefer a tablet PC over a laptop?
    3. Which of the two will have more of the apps you need?
    4. Are there any specific ports you have to have?

Answer those question may help you decide which one is best suited for your needs.

    Touchscreen or touchbar?

Surface Pro for the former, MacBook Pro for the latter.

Personally I'd take the MacBook Pro and Boot Camp it to run OSX and Windows 10.

Another good PC travel laptop is the Lenovo Carbon X1.

The Surface family is great. My users who have them are happy but as an iPhone user I prefer the Mac hand off and continuity features so usually use Windows as a guest OS via VMware.

The Surface pen is really good If you want ink to text. Especially if you're a OneNote or Office 365 user.
