Hello. I am a full time medical student and I'm really pondering on what laptop to get. I have saved all summer to get this so I can't afford to make a bad decision. The choices I have are rMBP 128gb (2014) for 847, rMBP 256gb (2014) for 1018 and both of these come with student discount, 60 gift card and three year guarantee. The other option is the refurbished mid range late 2013 version for 929 with one year guarantee. I also heard that there may be some other new ones early 2015 with the new processor would that be worth waiting for? I use my current laptop ( an old Fujitsu ) for football manager, essays, general internet, viewing films and photos. Please help me. Thanks in advance, Sam.

I'd get the base rMBP that was released yesterday. Only thing it's lacking in is the storage, but you can always get an external drive for that.

Thanks for the advice. Would you not consider the top spec one either then for 1189. I I just want to get the best value and longevity as I will be using the computer for a long time.

What specs does that one have?
    16GB of RAM? i7? 512GB of storage?

512gb 2.8i5 instead of 2.6 not much in regards to processor but still a little and double the storage again.

Any of those will serve the purposes you mentioned.

So for 170 you get 4x the storage (128 compared to 512) and a slightly better CPU?

Yeah 170 up from the mid-range one. It's just quite a big decision as it's a large purchase for me.

I'd say 256 and 8 GB of RAM is fine. No need for a higher clocked i5. The difference is minimal.
