Assigning a name to numer on my iPad message list

I am a true novice... I Only text on my iPad under the messages box. Can I assign a name to the number to find it quicker?

Yes. Initiate the Contacts app and then select the "+" symbol to create a contact. Enter the name of the person and then select the "add phone" option to enter the phone number.
