Why am I unable to charge my iPad using my charger?

Problem with iPad cable

When trying to charge my iPad a message is coming up saying "this cable us not certified and may not work on your device "
This has just happened today and has been working no problem up into now

That's a sign of a failing cable.

I have that problem sometimes too. A cable I've used for months sometimes gives this message when I grab my phone after waking up. It charges fine overnight, but I end up with the message.
