Using Apple Card becoming a cluster

I was using the Apple Card for about a week until...
.
Well, let me back up: despite "excellent" credit scores, there was initial difficulty getting approved for the card and I eventually had to send scans of my driver's license to Greendot bank. Things seemed great using the card until Monday morning. At a merchant, I was embarrassed by the dreaded "card declined" problem at checkout.

I discovered in the Wallet app that my account is now restricted and "New spending on your account has been blocked. Contact support..." I contacted them Monday, yesterday, and today. Each time the rep stated she could not determine what was going on and that "specialists" were working on the problem and would call me back that day. They did/have not.

I have never had such trouble using Apple products or services. Perhaps they weren't prepared for the demand or perhaps Greendot bank is simply incompetent.

Anyone else have a similar story?

I don't have a similar story, but find this to be very frustrating. I'm sorry you had this happen and I hope the "specialists" figure it out for you ASAP!

Good question! The verification of identity procedure in the app kept going in a loop without completing the verification. So they said they had to do it "manually." Go figure.

I'm confused. But I stay that way most of the time.

I thought Goldman Sachs backed the Apple Card and Greendot backed Apple Pay/Cash?

I thought so also. I needed to scan my driver’s license when applying for the Apple Card through the Wallet app. It is proof of identity. It went right through without any trouble.

This is what happens when Apple actually delivers a product that is reliant on a banking institution being a partner. I'm actually going to steer away from Apple Card for now because of stories such as this that I've read on other forums and Reddit.

Something just isn't stirring the Kool-aid here. I applied via the app like everyone else, verified the last 4 of my social, confirmed yearly salary and BOOM was approved.

Unless there has been any form of fraud or identity theft, why would you have to scan your DL to prove who you are?

Maybe I shouldn't be asking "why" as it's probably way WAY above my pay grade.

It definitely does seem like a red flag moment!

Update: almost a month, and the saga continues. I've called repeatedly, had an Apple senior advisor call them, I've spoken to 2 of their equivalent of senior advisors who promised to take ownership of the case and call me back but did not, and, about a week ago, got to the department in charge and they finally gave me a tidbit of information: I just had to wait in line with the others who had their accounts restricted and the specialists would call me when it was my turn.

How long could all this take?! I have no trouble with any of my credit cards or accounts, so what's the problem?! Then, the other day, I mentioned this to my son and he said his Apple Card was working fine and then BOOM!--his card got restricted, too. Then it was reactivated. Then it was restricted again and there it remains. No warning, no explanation, just like what happened to me.

I've given up calling and I'll just sit back and wait. Problem is: I pre-ordered the new iPhone and Apple Watch and it sure would have been nice to get appproximately $75 in cash back had I been able to use the Apple Card!

No problems here. I did have to scan my ID but I was approved immediately. Within a span of two hours I had card approval, two iPhone 11s at my door and $97 in Apple Cash.

Curious what the latest is on this.
I just signed up for the Apple card today; not that I need the bloody thing. Physical card is on the way, too...

Well, it's been quite a clusterF*ck...sorry, I mean "journey."

Summary:

I was finally up and running in December. This was after more delays and god-awful customer service by Greendot bank/Goldman Sachs.

Painful Details:

However, it seems the source of the trouble that Greendot could not decipher and/or tell me about was the fact that my credit union changed our account numbers (the main 6 numbers stayed the same, but the numbers around it did not--go figure) without telling us. So this made the approval process and ability to have the card stay active full of problems.

Greendot customer service is truly one of the worst I've ever encountered. Even after the one smart & helpful agent I encountered figured out the problem (about 1/2 way through this period--even supervisors were clueless) and told me how to correct it which led to activation, it was deactivated the next day. Then, after calling in and getting bad or no information on why I was deactivated, nobody told me that I needed to reapply for a totally new card until a month or so later.

Note that all this would have never been resolved if I hadn't been persistently calling in to get an update given that their promised call-backs NEVER occurred. To add insult to injury, their hold music was the same two TERRIBLE pop songs played over and over in a loop. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Anyway, this was not an Apple screwup (except for doing business with Goldman Sachs/Greendot) and I've been using the Apple Card and it's great! In addition to, of course, Apple Pay with my Apple Watch and online, the best thing is the physical card: I love handing it over when necessary--especially restaurants--and not having to worry that some "enterprising" employee will copy down the numbers etc. to use it/sell it later.

Bottom line: if there's a glitch in the sign up process or after you start using Apple Card and you need to call support at Greendot, god have mercy on your soul!
