    The easiest way to protect it is to be careful with it. All the cables I have for my devices are the original cables. Not one is in bad shape. I never remove the cable by holding onto the cable to remove it. I always remove my cables by holding onto the actual connector. This seems to be the biggest thing I can do to protect my cables.

    What damages cables most is using the device while charging. That's what destroys mine.

    If its going to be a cable you are carrying with you, Id spend a few extra dollars and get an Anker cable from Amazon. They are reinforced so they hold up a lot better.
