When I opened my New Macbook, should it have been on?

I just opened my New 12 inch Macbook and it was on. Should it have been on? The charge was at 17% and the screen lit up to a desktop. No password was asked for. Should I take it back?

It's up to you if you want to return the MacBook but that's really weird. Was the package still factory sealed before you opened it?

Where did you buy it? Was the box sealed? Sounds a little shady. I would return

Should not have been turned on. I would return it and ask for a new one explaining why. Final decision about returning is up to you though.

Mine was completely dead no battery life at all very strange Apple products usually have battery life.
