How long should I charge my New Macbook for when I first get it?

When I get my new Macbook (12 inch) how long should I charge it for right out of the box? Should I turn it on or leave it off while charging it?

Welcome to iMore! Charge the MacBook however it's most convenient. There's no need to leave it turned off while charging. The battery in your MacBook is much more sophisticated than the old NiCad batteries they used to use in notebook computers.

I am personally blown away by the battery. Really holds a charge when it's not in use.
