Default watchOS 3 and external GPS

I'm looking foreward to the new update. Now that they have added some essential feature on the running workout, will the watch be able to connect to an external gps sensor?
I'm still hoping for a release of a new sportband with build in gps that connect to the "secret" data port of the watch

Default Re: watchOS 3 and external GPS

As released currently, I have not found a way to connect to an external GPS of any kind, I have to rely on my iPhone for my GPS services, however, my understanding is that the next version of the Apple watch will have the GPS chip enabled on the device locally along with a SIM card allowing the watch independant functionality.
