So I suspended all my lines ( three iPhones and one iPad) for the summer since I'm away overseas until August, and it looks like I can still send and receive iMessages. How does this work, and will it add overage fees to my bill even though service has been suspended? I have a more everything plan, which has unlimited texting and calling.

It's using email addresses you've set up to be reachable via iMessage... No charges for those at all.

I see. It's not sending iMessages as quickly as before I suspended service. Does this have to do with the WiFi connection I'm using?

That could do it. A poor wifi signal definitely slows things down. Try rebooting your router/modem. Maybe it will help.
