They are talking about the carrier update to 18.1, and not an iOS update.

I recall receiving a carrier update (AT&T) in the day I activated my iPhone 6 Plus. I'm accustomed to receiving them via VZW.

I've had them appear when rebooting a phone, after resetting network, and by the settings/general/about method...

No, still on 8.1.2. It was for carrier settings, not an OS update. After clicking on OK nothing much appeared to happen.

Update: just now getting an OS update for 8.1.3 over here on O2 in the UK. Can't upgraded until I return home tomorrow night though.

This Verizon update was related to the ringtone issue Apple addressed in 8.1.2.

I find it interesting that I didn't get any notification until I opened the about page. It's updated to 18.1 now.

My iPhone 5c had that carrier update popup today, I hit cancel. I thought it was trying to update iOS to 8.1.3 which I don't want.

Two questions.
- What does it actually update? And I'm guessing its safe, never saw one of these alerts in the 6 years I've been with VZW.
- Why did my iPhone 5c get the update popup but not my 5s? My two other lines, what are basic phones got no alert either.

Oh, and both iPhones are jailbroken, if that even matters.
