At one point JJ Abrams said that he was not aggressively chasing the job because he was so invested in the Star Trek universe and felt his abilities were better focused on that franchise...but given this guys talent, I'm excited to see what he brings to this story, because he is a damn fine director, writer and producer.

Imagine the conventions, when the Star Trek and Star Wars guys both show to praise and claim "their guy". two worlds collide. Maybe Star Trek can have him on holidays and every other weekend.
