Why can’t I make the camera’s “REAL” exposure more than 1/3s ?

I want my iphone 6s+ camera to take pictures with exposures of 10,20,30 seconds. But the camera won’t expose the sensor for more than 1/3s. Is there a way to do that?
PS: I am not talking about stacking multi images to get the light trail effect. I want the long expo mode to take pictures of the stars.

Not natively. Download Slow Shutter Cam. It'll do what you want.

Also not sure you're going to get good star shots with such a small sensor and with an older phone.

If you have a tripod and an external lens you could prolly get some good ones..
