Why am I unable to connect to server to update my iPad to iOS 8?

I can still acess emails etc via laptop, therefore server ok. I have not installed version 8 but now will not allow me to install. any suggestion to resolve this?

To install iOS 8, follow the instructions via the following link. Also, your iPad must be an iPad 2 or newer to work with iOS 8.
