Netflix & Surround Sound?

I'm using the Apple HDMI adapter to mirror streaming Netflix to my home theater from my ipad2 and iphone4s. I noticed that none of the content I stream from Netflix is outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. I guess I just sort of assumed it would. Does anyone know for sure if the Netflix app for iPad2 or iphone4s supports surround sound?

Also, what about rented iTunes content?

No it does not support 5.1 surround sound.
