how do I rid myself of the reading list panel on left side..it consumes one-third of the screen. Have tried settings the turning off the "bars" selection.

Plse help: I see another default browser is not an option?

iOS works the same on all devices... in Safari - the pane you speak of is toggled on/off via the 'book' icon between the search bar/URL entry space and the arrows in the top left of the Safari window.
