So i grabbed one of the $4 TMobile prepaid SIMS off their website. When I get it, I want to pop it in my iPhone 7 in order to check service coverage in the areas I usually frequent.

Will I be able to do that?

I don't think you have to be a customer to try that out, but you'll definitely have to be using an unlocked AT&T iPhone 7. The Sprint and Verizon phones don't have the required bands this time around, unfortunately.

That is not correct. The band and access tech support on the Sprint/Verizon iPhone 7 is a proper superset of the AT&T/T-Mobile model. (Data point: My own iPhone 7 Plus on T-Mobile is the Verizon model.)

The other way around would be correct though -- if you want to try an iPhone 7 on Sprint or Verizon, an AT&T/T-Mobile one wouldn't work as expected.
