My TiVo died. No live TV for me at the moment. Unless it's on ESPN and I can get it thru the Apple TV.

Nope. Of all the professional sports, the NFL "all star" game (aka Pro Bowl) is the least compelling. Even more so since they changed the format to the current set up. What a waste of time, space and bandwidth.

I don't know what they could do to fix the Pro Bowl. I tried to watch it to get my football fix but just didn't do it.

I’m not really sure they can fix it.

For one thing, football is a much different sport than baseball, hockey or basketball. Because of the beating one's body takes, it requires recovery time. In the other 3 major sports, they simply schedule a 4-5 day break around mid-season, play one game, and go back to "normal". With football, that’s not possible, It would take a full week.

Next, because it’s a "contact" sport, the risk of injury is much higher. Do you want your star quarterback or running back or wide receiver knocked out for a couple of games because he participated in an all star game and got hurt? Doubtful.

Then, there’s the question of when to play. If it is to be at all relevant, it must be played within the time frame of the "football season". Holding it in March, for example, would garner little attention. And playing it the week between the conference championship game and the Super Bowl Big Game precludes the players from the Big Game teams from participating due to breaking their focus on the Big Game and the risk of injury.

Finally, there’s the issue of those selected who are either legitimately hurt or say they are to get out of playing.

I think the move away from AFC/NFC teams and into the teams divided up as they have been for the past 2 years is an attempt to do something to draw attention to it. But IMO, that failed miserably.

That deal with the goal post was bogus. I can't remember that from last year.

The ONLY reason I gave it any thought was because it was Greg Olsen's 1st selection

I watched it (first half anyway before going to bed) because I won't be watching the super bowl. So this was my last chance at football until fall.

Did get to see Jordy Nelson catch a TD and celebrate with Clay who was on the other team ;-)

I tried watching too & it's terrible. Usually any football game will hold my attention but this one just ticked me off!

NBA all-star weekend is so much more fan friendly! You've got a rookie v. Sophomore game. Three point shootout. Dunk contest. All good stuff.

Super Bill: Weighing the cost of a Super Bowl trip

Super Bill: Weighing the cost of a Super Bowl trip | Reuters

Costco has an $8,000.00 deal for two that included tickets, lodging, shuttles and tailgate parties, but I can think of a lot of other things I'd rather spend $8,000.00 on.

There's still a strong demand for Super Bowl tickets, and they get bought and scalped over and over before the Super Bowl. Sooner or later it's going to have to peak out. I just don't know what number could be.

I guess it all depends on what you value such a trip at...for $8,000, you could go pretty much any where in the world on vacation with a guest and cover lodging, airfare and expenses. I know some people absolutely LOVE football, enough to where that amount of money would be easy to let go of for a super bowl trip like that, but to me...I'd rather enjoy the super bowl from a bungalow in Bora Bora, and then chill in paradise for the rest of the week for that money, lol!

I would like to see Seattle repeat. This game has some implications. Wilson on his way to greatness and Brady some will consider GOAT.

I think Brady is a good Quarterback (IMO), but the team he's on likes to CHEAT. DeflateGate is not the first or second time the Patriots have cheated

Yup that shadow will always be over them. Spy Gate and Deflate Gate. Can't wait for the kick off.

The latest I've seen (unofficial) about the deflated footballs is some professor or grad students in physics at MIT (I think) did some experiments and showed that with a warm locker room and 50F field temp and rain, the deflation could have happened naturally. Now whether it was natural or not, I have no idea.
