iOS has a lot of catching up to Android in so many ways, but iOS has its advantages too. If I wasn't invested in the Apple ecosystem, I would have ditched iOS awhile ago.

iOS is better in a lot of ways. Android is better in a lot of ways. I think thats the way it will always be. If you are not a fanboy of either OS you will be able to clearly see the strengths and weaknesses of both. I currently have a Nexus One, Samsung Vibrant, and 3GS. As you can see i have been able to do a lot of comparisons.

Using a Nexus One, Moto Cliq, Behold 2, and a MT3G, I must say I do like the set-up of the Android OS over iOS. I'm a dork, I like the more complicated Home-Screens that make it like a mini-desktop computer. But alas, I chose iOS because of the content. I'm an app person, the same as the next. If iOS "Complicated" the spring board a little bit, I'd literally start frolic'ing around.

I have a rooted and over clocked Droid and a JB'n 3gs. And i fully agree.
My wife on the other hand stands by the old
*they can have my iphone when they pry it from my cold dead hand*

She is warming up the the look of the new DX tho.

But yes both have their merits.

Android gives you the most features and flexibility, but iOS gives you the most hassle-free experience. If I had to make a car analogy, I would say Android is like an Alfa Romeo, whereas iOS is a VW.

Alfa is faster, sexier, and has a better racing pedigree. Real petrol heads love Alfa as sort of a 'rite of passage' into the motoring world because owning one takes serious commitment.

On the other hand, a VW will keep you on the road longer, is still a fun car to drive, and will keep your knuckles in far better condition.

I owned iPhones from 2007-2010 and currently own a Droid X. I plan on returning the DX and going back to the iPhone because for me getting the most out of Android is just too much effort.

Default Android

I went to the Captivate (Samsung Galaxy S) from iphone 3GS instead of iphone 4. I must say that the captivate is a very nice phone, the only one I've ever used that has stood a chance against the iphone. That having been said, there is somewhat of a hole where the iphone used to be. I can totally see myself getting used to the Android, but there is something to be said about the familiarity of the iphone.

The screen on the captivate is not as crisp, but more vibrant (or captivating), and the pure blacks are simply amazing. The larger size is also more finger friendly, as long as you have long thumbs.

The thing I miss most about the iphone is probably the itunes integration. I've been able to put all my music and whatnot, but it was a little difficult. Also editing playlists and stuff is possible only on the device, there isn't any good software available that does it well.

There are several great music apps for the Android. Go check out
Phandroid.com or Androidcentral.com. Tons of good tips and people that have made my transition from iphone to android pretty painless.

i actually made the same move, from 3gs to captivate. the ONLY thing i miss is the ability to easily sync my music playlists from itunes. as soon as i get around to re-doing them in another media player, or double twist gets a good upgrade, that wont even be an issue. my biggest gripes with ios were that everyone had the same thing. you might have a different homescreen background, but besides that, its all the same, a bunch of icons that you click. i do appreciate the simplicity of it, i really do, but i like to customize and make my phone mine. android has given me that chance. notifications on ios are horrible as well, the pull down menu on the captivate has made a world of difference to me.

the original question i guess was if you came from android to ios, why was it better? i think it all has to mainly do with personal preference. both os's really can kinda do the same thing at this point. it just depends what feels better to each.

At this point, it all boils down to features

Android has a lot of OS features- live wallpapers, widgets, better notification system, voice search, flash, ability to customize to a certain degree without jailbreaking. Then there are the other things like the tight integration of all google apps and...

the choice (APPLE ARE YOU LISTENING?) of your carrier!

When you unbox an Android phone, there are so many features you can play with, you can change it to your liking. You can play with the phone, Android is an amazing OS.

iOS is a very simple, vanilla flavored OS. No live wallpapers, no widgets, you don't get that notification bar like in Android, just a pop up message, no voice search, no flash. The only redeeming quality iOS has over Android OS is that it is very polished. iOS is boring. It's dull. When you first unbox an iPhone, 5 minutes later you're like that's it? This is what I spent my money on? This is it?

And to make it worse, it's AT&T only. (ARE YOU LISTENING APPLE?)

But, and this is a very big BUT... where the iPhone absolutely, 100%, blows away Android, shock & awe style is the app store. iOS is boring because it can be. The app store has all kinds of useful apps that really transform the way you use your phone- zipcar, chase bank, netflix, all the games, all the little apps that make it worthwhile. It just murders the Android market. Will all this, it doesn't matter if the iPhone can't show wallpaper with falling leaves and rippling water, if the notification system is bunk, if you can't tell your iPhone to send an email to your buddy, none of that matters anymore.

The sad thing is that AT&T destroys this advantage with its absolutely lousy network- no network, no pandora, no netfllix, no access to chase, no nothing! So for me, Android is far superior. The voice & data are the killer apps for Android. You can make calls and use the data network reliably.

So in the end, Android wins simply because a smartphone NEEDS a data connection and AT&T can't provide a reliable voice AND data service. It's all about the network.
