Deleted a line but deleted the entire content of the note instead

Hi, I was writing for 5 hours using note on my iPad (I can't remember what version I have though) I am almost done and just wanted to delete an unnecessary line at the bottom of the letter and it deleted the entire content instead. I did't touch it for few minute and it came back to where I was in the section of the letter but the note seems frozen as I can't do anything with it. The only button I can press is a square with upward arrow curved on the upper right side of it and the word "Done" but it could mean anything. Done as yes delete everything etc. The rest of the buttons are grayed out - Undo, Redo, Delete all and Share button. Also the drawing tools showed up at the bottom of the screen.

I'm so afraid to press anything as I can't afford to loose a five hour work if I pressed the wrong button.

Please help.

Hi Angie, welcome to iMore.
What happens when you press the home button and open the Notes app again? Do the buttons stay dark? You could try to copy all the text and mail it to yourself.
