Default Does SIRI require a constant internet connection?

I understand if I ask it to look for something online, it would need internet access. (duh)

What if I just tell it to play a MP3 or a video already on my iPhone? Do I need to be on WIFI/DATA for SIRI to just do that?

I don't want it to eat away at my data caps if it doesn't need to.

(Also - CAN I tell it to play a song/video in the first place?)

From what I understand, it will require internet to do dictation (speech-to-text).

    Not sure why.

In any case though, it won't use much data really. It's only tiny sound bites.

Leo Laporte and the folks on TWiT this morning were talking about the fact that the text-to-speech process was server based... so if that is true, then you would need some sort of live internet connection - 3G or wifi.

Yes it does. I got an email from Apple introducing the 4S and at the bottom is says:

Siri is available only on iPhone 4S and requires Internet access.

Bummer for Verizon & Sprint customers, obviously CDMA not being able to do voice/data at the same time (until 4G LTE) means you can't be on a call and use Siri or is that something that isn't possible at all regardless?

Who is going to be on the phone AND use Siri at the same time??? I would doubt that's even possible regardless of what version of the phone you have. It doesn't really make sense.
