What is Apple thinking with iMessage?

It's just too busy and messy for my liking. Not the minimalistic Apple design that I like. With WhatsApp throwing everyone's privacy to the dogs (well, to Facebook), there aren't that many good messaging apps around. iMessage was nice as it was, but it just feels "overcrowded" now. I use...

Let's hear the problems that people are facing using iOS 10.

Haven't discovered any major bugs or issues yet. Some nice things have been done to the Mail App, and the lock screen changes are very good. The predictions about driving directions, a la Google Now, are also good. (1) A minor issue, I use a Deltek TimeSheet app, which pops up an error message...

IPhone 6s vs IPhone 6s plus

6S Plus: Better battery life, slightly better screen reading experience, slightly better camera, but very poor ergonomics. 6S: Short battery life but much more ergonomic. It is a tradeoff. I went with the Plus for its battery life, but given a second chance, would consider the 6S for its...

Can I play Pokemon Go while biking or driving?

For me, riding a bicycle is much more fun than playing Pokemon on a glass slab. So, I'm going to say No.

    Large to small?

I'm considering going to a smaller phone when the time comes for me to switch, which won't be any time soon. I originally preferred the 6S Plus over the 6S for the superior battery life and camera. While the battery life of the Plus is indeed far superior to that of the 6S, it is an unwieldy...

    Best third party keyboard?

My experience with third-party keyboards on iPhone 6S Plus has not been very pleasant, unfortunately. Compared with the native keyboard, I have found them marginally better in predictive text suggestions, and marginally worse in typing accuracy. I've tried Swiftkey and GBoard. For conciseness...

    case or no case?

I've got a case on my 6S Plus. It's such an ergonomically awkward phone that it is bound to fall once in a while, and I'd rather not risk breaking or dinging it. For a 6S, I would certainly have considered going without a case; it is a beautiful phone.

    Best phone you ever had?

A little red BlackBerry Curve 8310 and a delightful BlackBerry Q10 were the most enjoyable smartphones I have ever owned. Everything else has been just a functional, but boring ol' slab of glass.

What's your favorite app for handwriting?

I've tried Noteshelf and Notability, and have persisted with Notability for about a year now. I made a decision last year to quit taking research notes in a paper notebook or in loose-leaf binders, figuring that it was easier to just make electronic notes, and archive them on Google Drive or...

Anyone use their 6S Plus as an all-in-one?

I do programming and write papers using latex, so that's a no for me. I definitely need a proper computer, e.g., a Macbook Pro.

I really wanted iPhone 7c Plus!

OP, you could buy a 7S Plus and put a nice, appropriately colored case on it :-) .

    Back ground refresh

For me, it isn't about the battery but about the cellular data usage, i.e., when one is not on WiFi. "Background App Refresh" can use up a lot of data, so I turned it off.

I will buy Apple Watch ONLY if

Agree that Pebble has a robust vibrate alarm. How long does your Pebble last without a Bluetooth connection to the phone? I tested this on mine once, and the thing lasted 13 days before running out of battery! All that time, I was still using the sleep tracker, step counter, and basic calendar...

I will buy Apple Watch ONLY if

I actually don't set my Pebble on my dresser, but sleep with it on. It tracks my sleep, and provides a good vibrate alarm without waking the s/o . For me that is a big plus, but I understand that it may not matter to everyone.

I will buy Apple Watch ONLY if

I will buy an Apple Watch only if provides a week or more of battery life. Until then, I'm happy with a Pebble. I can't be bothered to charge yet another device every one or two nights.

Apple, the FBI, and your privacy under siege

Apple is doing absolutely the right thing here. Any kind of backdoor that can be exploited by the government, can also be exploited by an adversary. Backdoors would just put the privacy of innocent people at risk. It is quite the irony that a company is protecting its customers from the prying...

Is it time to abandon Apple for being slow to upgrade their Professional Macs?

All things considered, Macbook Pros are still amongst the best laptops out-of-the-box. I get the benefit of a reasonably seamless, bug-free experience and am happy 99% of the time. My 6-year-old MacBook Pro is a bit slow, but still perfectly usable. If it had been a Windows laptop, I would have...

Apple Care+ should I buy it or not?

I have had several Apple Devices, but have never bought Apple Care, or any insurance plan from the mobile provider. A one-year warranty is already provided and my credit card provider doubles that. I'm not sure how many people know this, and certainly the mobile providers will never tell you...

What would it take to make you upgrade?

I actually wear it to bed, as it tracks sleep pretty nicely, and provides an excellent alarm without waking up the significant other :-). But, I see what you mean about the thread being only for Apple Watch users, so I'll take my comments elsewhere.

What would it take to make you upgrade?

I have a year-old Pebble Steel that works reasonably well with my 6S Plus. I won't upgrade to the Apple Watch until it gives me at least 7 days of battery life. A health tracker is useless if the damn watch dies every couple of days.
