When you get a text message from a number that's not in your contacts, how do you add that number?

Ok I have 2 iPhones that are synced on the same computer. We have 2 separate iTunes ids but when my wife goes to update an app it is asking her to enter my password with my iTunes account instead of hers. What do I need to do.
