    iOS 5 GM Notifications

Unfortunately, I cannot go airplane mode or silent/no vibrate because I am on call some nights. A global notification switch was a great feature for that situation, but it appears there is no good solution for this use case in iOS5.

    iOS 5 GM Notifications

Answering my own question...it appears no. So instead of one switch to flip when going to bed (or in a meeting), you now have 2 things to do in each app you want to silence.

    iOS 5 GM Notifications

I finally got around to installing iOS 5 and noticed one of my most used features of notifications is missing (or perhaps simply moved). I play several turn based games with people in other time zones, and turning off notifications gave a respite from 3 AM alerts. Is there still a way to turn...

Win an iPhone 4S from TiPb!

Would love to bring another iPhone into the family...outnumbered 2:1 by Android, with one feature phone user on the fence.

    TiPb iPad 2 give away!

My favorite thing about tipb is the body of discussions sparked by the articles. The comment threads offer different perspectives - some fanboy, some hater, some comsidered - and are often as informative (and entertaining) as the articles themselves.

Verizon iPhone give-away! Enter now to win!

I follow tipb for news & opinions, and I'd like to perform the Pepsi Challenge on a Verizon iPhone. (I have an ATT iPhone, my wife has a Verizon Droid -- a Verizon iPhone could be the tiebreaker)

    TiPb iPad 32GB Wi-Fi + 3G give away!!

I would love one for traveling, and for checking on server status remotely - the iPhone is nice, but a bigger screen would help. My daughter insists she needs one "for homework" too, so maybe we need two - but one from tipb would be a good start :)

Push Notifications going to old iPhone

I received my iPhone 4 today, and activation was relatively painless, except for one problem -- my push notifications are still going to my old iPhone 3G (since powered down). Is this a known issue when changing phones, and it the transfer will catch up at some point?

iPhone OS heading toward becoming "Windows" of smart phones?

Yes and no. The exploit itself was not iPhone-specific, but, out of the three platforms invovled, the iPhone was by far the most seriously compromised, as it was the only one to easily allow executable code in that space. The others were merely inconvenienced; the iPhone was "pwned." That is...

    Excessive Call Failed

This fake iPhone commecial sums up many people's experience with the iPhone on AT&T. :) (Warning -- one naughty word in the early part of the clip -- do not click through if that language offends you.)

Warning: AT&T voicemail delays (by days!)

I assume you are experiencing the same problem MG Siegler wrote about on TechCrunch. The article is more a rant than a technical investigation, but it certainly indicates you are not alone with this problem.

    Prowl

Not to hijack the thread overmuch, but you can also use it to post arbitrary notifications. They provide a perl script to do it from the command line, and others have supplied ruby, php, and python versions, but really any language in which you can do an https GET (really, any language) is...

    iPhone OS 3.xx Software Bugs/Issues

I am seeing the same reduced wifi range issue both at home and at a few local hotspots.

Finally thinking of making the switch from BB to Iphone...Really need some input

Do not trust AT&T's coverage map -- I live smack-dab in the middle of an ocean of 3G covered blue in California, but my reception and call quality is middling, and *significantly* worse than my old Verizon BB 8830, or wife's current Verizon BB Curve. (The quality is good enough for me, so I...

TiPb 32GB iPhone 3G S Give Away - Day Three!

My family assumed I would be upgrading my iPhone 3G. My father has talked about inheriting my 3G. My daughter is too well-behaved to ask, but my wife has pointed out she will shortly turn the age we told her she could get a cel phone. A new iPhone 3G would not only be a nice upgrade for me, but...

The official OS 3.0 initial thoughts thread!

I have enabled push notifications for the two apps I have installed that support it (Tap Tap 2 and AP Mobile), but have not received a single notification yet. Is the service (or these apps) not yet active, or have others received notifications already, which might suggest something wrong with...

why does my iphone 3.0 not have push notifications?

I have the AP news app, and post 3.0, it did ask me to accept notifications. I did, and checking the settings shows notifications enabled globally and for this app. However, a half day later, I have yet to receive any notifications. Has anybody?

The Official Staying up Until Midnight for 3.0 Thread.

Yes -- not jailbroken, not unlocked -- just a plain vanilla iphone 3G. Google found lots of matches for that second error message for both iphones and ipod touches, all of which indicated a reboot cleared it, so I suppose I will just keep my fingers crossed, since things appear to be working now.

The Official Staying up Until Midnight for 3.0 Thread.

Ugh...after applying 3.0 update - First error message: "We are unable to recognize the SIM. Please reconnect your iphone or visit an ATT store" - Second error message, after reconnecting: "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)" Anybody seen...
