Privacy concerns with Pokemon Go?

I keep reading about the privacy concerns with Pokemon Go having access to Google accounts but the info is confusing. Some say it's only on iOS and others say iOS and Android, so which is it and has it been fixed yet?

Welcome to iMore! Fortunately it's no longer a problem. The Gmail privacy issue has been patched in today's 1.0.1 update.

You can check your google settings to see what permissions have been granted. It should be "basic access", and no longer "full access".
