Default What OS is worse, Android or Windows?

Just wanted to see this from iOS user's perspective, which OS do you dislike more, Android or Windows? (Assuming the ones who dislike them, otherwise, tell me which one is better from your observations.

Assuming you mean Windows Phone OS, I don't dislike either but if iOS and iPhones suddenly disappear, I would probably pick a Windows Phone like the high-end Nokias.

Like Karen, I don't have a dislike for any of the mobile platforms. I'm currently using an iPhone and therefore, my focus is on iOS, but it would be the same if I were using a Device running Android, Blackberry or Windows Mobile. If, as Karen put it, iOS and Apple were to disappear, I would *probably* return to Blackberry.

Default What OS is worse, Android or Windows?

I feel that Windows Phone is a little worse off than Android. That said, I dislike both completely. They are both over complicated and don't provide the basic, yet powerful, structure offers by Apple's iPhone.

The biggest reason I say Windows Phone is farther behind is because of Apps. Android has the majority of apps that IOS has, but Windows Phone does not. WP also doesn't offer the same features that Android, a more mature OS, can.

From a support standpoint, Android is the worse. Being that I maintain mobile solutions and support for a few clients, Android has always been the proverbial Achilles heel. Many users have problems with simple tasks such as joining wifi networks. And don't expect executives to go looking for answers online. They pay me for solutions. Second on need of most support is blackberry. None of my clients use windows mobile (yet). iOS is the easiest to support, that is when I have to. Most support tickets get cancelled 5 minutes later with the user saying "never mind, I found the setting."

If i had to pick one to put as the lesser, it would be Android...I like where Microsoft is going with their setup, but it's still very clunky and clumsy feeling to me. With polish it could be a very nice user environment.

Agreed! I've tried out several Android phones and really do not like them. Tried out the Lumia 920,and while I feel that it lacks, I still like it better than Android.

I think in this thread people should clarify which android OEM skin they are talking about or if they are talking about pure vanilla android, as with a Nexus. It really is a huge difference having a phone running pure vanilla android vs. an OEM skin like Touchwiz.

I would say WP8 over Android. I have both and I've found WP8 closer to the 'it just works' category than Android is. No there aren't the apps but it's a platform that has never been heavily pushed until October and even then sales reps steer people away from them. WP8 lacks the little things, up until the Portico update you could not save texts as drafts, group SMS and the ring volume is still not separate from the media/alarm volumes (I found that very annoying). One thing I really enjoy about WP8 is when you have a bluetooth in and recieve a text it gives you the option to read you the text or ignore it. If you choose read it reads the text and then lets you reply through voice.

I still enjoy my iPhone much more than either platform, I keep seriously trying to go Android but I always end up back to my iPhone. I am yet to use an Android phone that matches my iPhone in battery life.

I love Android and iOS so much I don't see how Android 4.2.2 stock is overly complicated and my Nexus 4 is just as fast as my i5.

I don't think this is much of a contest. Android over WP8 in a landslide.

That's very interesting to hear. What sort of support do you do?

As for me if you'd have asked a week ago I probably would have said WP8 as I like the overall design and feel more, but then I got some time in with the HTC One. That's a phone with the chops to turn me completely around on that opinion. Not sure I could completely ditch iOS for it yet but...damn.

I don't have any experience with either Android or Windows, but if I had to pick a worse OS, I'd say Windows due to their lack of apps.

Android REALLY isn't hard to support, sorry but I've had no issues with joining Wi Fi networks, you yourself should try out a Nexus 4 and then tell me if it really is hard.

Here is a hint it's not hard to use it's just different.

I find all platforms intriguing. I use iOS because I am in the Apple ecosystem (computer and mobile) pretty much completely and I am quite content, with no desire to change to another platform. However, if I had to change should iOS disappear (if the BB guys survived until the Z10, I am sure we would be alright if Apple moves slow), I would probably go with Android. It is currently better supported than Windows Phone, and I use some google services already. I donīt like Windows Phone much, it looks interesting, but claustrophobic. I know the WP guys talk about customisation of their tiles and what not, but I think WP looks more un-customizable than iOS. They can only change the lock screen wallpaper, size and colour of tiles. There is no central notifications menu, and a serious lack of well made apps. Maybe in a few years, if MSFT gets the platform going properly it might be a worth option, right now if anything happens I would prefer to suffer Android.

Answering the question, in my opinion Windows Phone is worse.

When we talk about supporting a platform, we usually imply from an IT standpoint - can we support 300 of them on our network while keeping security measures in place, etc., not just joining your single device to your home network or Starbucks WiFi.

That being said, we are still experiencing issues getting users to be able to access Google Play. Android tends to be counter-intuitive.

When was the last time you used an Android device? And what was it? Lag really is a thing of the past now with Jellybean on most flagship Android devices. I have found that as long as the device has 2gb of RAM and the S4 processor, things are going to be smooth and stable. You can also secure an android device and make it pretty locked down these days.

I have always hated sense and touch wiz but TW on the Note 2 is simply put, nice. With that said it is very bloated (ie AOSP with gapps include is about 200 mb or so....touchwiz (on Note 2) is about 600 to 800 mb depending on which TW rom you are running.) Sense on the HTC One is also nice. AOSP gets old after a while as does non jail broken iOS. Windows is just too basic for me right now but definitely has potential and would love to see other manufacturers aside from Nokia put their full weight into some windows hardware development as they do with Android.

I don't think lag is much of an issue anymore. My Spectrum 2 with Ice Cream Sandwich doesn't lag and it doesn't even have 1GB of RAM I believe.

I see. my schools network did admittedly have issues at first but only because our IT guy hates Android and Apple and restricted access for Android devices.

Usually people who can't see issues with lag have little perspective. It's not laggy to them if they've never used better.

A smartphone to me is a phone with an upgradeable OS and installable apps. What made it smart was being able to install apps of your choice to give it whatever feature or ability you desired. The more apps, the smarter it is. Android wins over WP8 or BB on this. iOS trumps android on this.
