Need a Knowledgable Person's Advice!!

Ok well first off I am not sure where to post this, but I think this will do. I have around $500 to spend from Christmas gifts. I am looking to get into the Apple World and currently own a Windows computer and thats it. What is your advice on which apple products to buy?

Obviously the original iPad is the cheapest, but is it worth buying now? Is it still being updated just as much as the 2? Whats the differences? When the 3 comes out (thinking it will in the next year) will the Original still be updated and able to play games and apps like the 2 or 3 can? Just do not want to buy something that I will not get as much use out of in a few months.

Also if I get the original i would have some money left over to get a iphone as I am due for a new contract here soon.

The major difference between the 1 and 2 is the camera and size. Both run iOS 5 and should continue to be supported even after the 3.

$500 won't get you an iPad and an iPhone any way you slice it.

The iPhone 4s 16gb with contract is $199

it can be done in this economy. Lol.

$319 + $199 = $518. While it's not a huge difference, it's not $500.
